Guide
Hormone pellets, creams or injections: how do they differ?
Bioidentical hormones can be given as pellets placed under the skin every three to six months, as creams or gels applied daily, as oral capsules or patches, or as injections at intervals. At Arora MD Longevity & Aesthetics in East Brunswick, NJ, Dr. Mudit Arora chooses the route with each patient after reviewing their history and lab results; none is right for everyone.
Pellets
Small pellets of plant-derived bioidentical estrogen or testosterone are placed under the skin in a 15 to 30 minute visit under local anesthetic. They release hormone steadily for about three to six months, so there is no daily dose to remember, and they are offered to women around menopause and to men with declining testosterone.
Creams and gels
Applied to the skin, typically every day. They are easy to start and simple to adjust, but they depend on daily routine.
Injections, capsules and patches
Injections are given at set intervals and are a common route for testosterone in men. Oral capsules and patches are further options; which one fits depends on your labs, your preferences and your medical profile.
How the choice is made
Blood work comes first: patients book at least two weeks ahead and complete labs at Quest, Labcorp or another participating lab. Dr. Arora reviews the results with you, explains the options and what each involves, and nothing is prescribed before that conversation.

Questions
Quick answers
Which hormone delivery method is best?
There is no single best route. Dr. Arora recommends one after reviewing your history, symptoms and lab results, and some patients are not candidates for hormone therapy at all.
How long do hormone pellets last?
Usually three to six months, depending on factors such as metabolism and activity. Your levels and symptoms guide the timing of the next placement.
Are pellets only for women?
No. Pellet therapy is offered to men with declining testosterone as well as to women around menopause.
