Arora MD Longevity & Aesthetics in East Brunswick, NJ offers bioidentical hormone pellet therapy for women and men, under the care of Dr. Mudit Arora, a board-certified internal medicine physician with fellowship training in anti-aging and metabolic medicine. Pellets about the size of a grain of rice are placed under the skin of the hip or buttock under local anesthetic, and release hormones steadily for roughly three to six months.
Hormone pellet therapy
Who it’s for
The first conversation is about you, not a protocol. You may be a good fit if:
- Persistent fatigue
- Lower libido
- Weight gain or difficulty sleeping
- Mood swings or low mood
- Women with hot flashes, night sweats or vaginal dryness around menopause
- Men whose testosterone has declined, sometimes from their 30s
Your options
Pellets, creams or injections?
All three can deliver bioidentical hormones. They differ in how steady the levels are and how often you think about them.
Pellets
Placed every 3 to 6 months; a steady release without daily doses.
Creams and gels
Applied to the skin, typically daily.
Injections
Given at intervals; often used for testosterone.
Pellets aren’t right for everyone. Dr. Arora recommends a route after reviewing your history and labs. Individual results vary.
How it works
What to expect
Consult and testing
Book at least two weeks ahead for your lab work. Your levels are reviewed and a plan is built for your needs.
Placement
Under local anesthetic, small pellets go just under the skin, usually at the hip or buttock. The visit takes about 15 to 30 minutes.
Gradual release
The pellets release small, consistent doses over several months, avoiding the peaks and dips of daily routes.
Follow-up
Your levels and symptoms are checked and the dose adjusted. Most patients return every 3 to 6 months for new pellets.
For hormone and longevity consults, please book at least two weeks ahead: our team sends a lab order for Quest, Labcorp or another participating lab, typically covered by insurance.
Why some patients choose pellets
Because the pellet releases hormones slowly, levels stay more even than with routes that are applied or taken daily, and there is nothing to remember between visits.
The hormones are bioidentical, plant-derived and chemically similar to what your body makes, typically estrogen or testosterone. Patients often describe better energy, mood and mental clarity once levels are balanced.
Preparing for placement, and recovery
Preparation is simple and recovery is short.
- Finish your hormone testing before the visit
- Avoid anticoagulant medications or supplements beforehand, as advised
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day
- Skip strenuous exercise, swimming and baths for 2 to 3 days afterward
- Keep the site clean and dry; mild swelling or soreness usually settles within a few days

Questions
Hormone pellet therapy: common questions
How are pellets different from other hormone therapy?
They release hormones steadily over months, avoiding the ups and downs that can come with pills, patches or creams, and usually need fewer adjustments.
How long does the placement take?
About 15 to 30 minutes, under local anesthetic. Most people go back to their usual routine shortly afterward.
What hormones are in the pellets?
Bioidentical hormones derived from plants, typically estrogen or testosterone, chemically similar to the hormones your body produces.
How often are pellets replaced?
Usually every 3 to 6 months, depending on factors such as metabolism and activity. Your levels and symptoms guide the timing.
Is there a risk of infection?
The risk is low because the procedure is minimally invasive and sterile, but as with any minor procedure a small risk of infection or irritation exists. You get aftercare instructions.
Are pellets for men too?
Yes. Pellet therapy is offered to men with declining testosterone as well as to women around menopause.
